Known for his blistering pace, sharp dribbling, and clinical finishing, he thrives in one-on-one situations and is always looking to make an impact in the final third.
Football runs deep in Bernard-Ferguson’s family. Inspired by his football-loving father, he first began playing at the age of four for Lambeth Tigers, eager to follow in the footsteps of his older sister, Chelsea Ferguson – a former Brighton player now with Lewes.
Makai also carries Palace pedigree in his bloodline. His uncle, former Palace favourite Jason Puncheon, has been a major influence and role model in his football journey.
A standout performer on the right wing, Bernard-Ferguson enjoyed a strong start to the 2024/25 season before an unfortunate injury in November brought his campaign to a premature end.
Prior to that, he had found the net several times and was a consistent threat in attack.
Under coach Javier Alonso, he has become a mainstay in the young Eagles’ setup, contributing seven goals and three assists so far in the current campaign. With his dynamic style and attacking instinct, Bernard-Ferguson has an eye for the spectacular.
In the 8-0 win over Ipswich, a Khyan Frazer-Williams long throw set up Donte Martin, who flicking the ball on for Makai Bernard-Ferguson to smash a half-volley into the top corner – a finish that would help seal the rout.
Bernard-Ferguson kept the magic coming with an October Goal of the Month nomination away at Sheffield United, before cutting inside onto his favoured left foot and whipping a sublime strike into the far corner to make it 3–1 in the Premier League Cup win against Chelsea.
He was at it once more in the top-of-the-table clash with Southampton just before Christmas, curling a beautiful effort into the top corner after being threaded through by Drakes-Thomas to restore Palace’s lead. A series of sensational goals!
