Loan Watch: Phillips on target for St Mirren in five-goal thriller

As the festive football continues to ramp up, our loanees have been in the thick of the action over recent days.

There was delight for attacking midfielder Killian Phillips who was on the St Mirren scoresheet for the second time since his move north of the border.

Phillips, making his 14th start for the Buddies, slotted home a well-taken goal just ten minutes into what proved to be a lively Scottish Premiership contest away at St Johnstone.

Four more goals followed after the break, with a retaken Roland Idowu penalty deep into injury time eventually deciding the contest, St Mirren and Phillips able to celebrate a thrilling 3-2 win.

Over in the EFL, winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi was in Championship action for Sheffield United as the Blades moved three points clear at the top of the table.

They recorded a 2-0 home victory over Plymouth Argyle with Rak-Sakyi completing 52 minutes before he was substituted.

Goalkeeper Owen Goodman was also able to celebrate three points on Saturday night after keeping another clean sheet for AFC Wimbledon in their 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Goodman now has ten shutouts across all competitions this season, the win helping the Dons up to fourth in the League Two table, above their opponents.

Another keeper in action over the weekend was Joe Whitworth, between the sticks for League One Exeter City as they travelled to Barnsley.

Despite making an exceptional one-on-one save, Whitworth could do nothing about the two second-half opposition goals as Exeter went down to a 2-1 defeat.

Tayo Adaramola was not involved in Stockport’s league defeat at Stevenage, but did feature in midweek for the Hatters, playing 76 minutes of their 3-2 EFL Trophy defeat at home to Bradford City.

Elsewhere, Danny Imray was back in action for Bromley completing a full 90 minutes in their 0-0 draw with Port Vale, a result that extends their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions.

Midfielder Jack Wells-Morrison again started for Wealdstone as they continued their National League campaign away at Oldham.

His team raced into a 2-0 first-half lead but were then on the wrong end of a dramatic fightback from the hosts, who triumphed 3-2, with Wells-Morrison picking up a yellow card along the way.

In the UEFA Conference League forward Luke Plange was part of the HJK Helsinki squad facing Molde last Thursday, remaining on the bench during a 2-2 draw.

Elsewhere on the continent, striker Ademola Ola-Adebomi was on the bench for Belgian side SK Beveren as they picked up a 1-0 over K. Lierse, although Mola was not called into action on this occasion.

And finally, Roshaun Mathurin was an unused substitute for Hartlepool’s 0-0 draw with Southend United in the National League.
