Summer internationals: Colombia duo called-up, Wharton Update

Dean Henderson and Ebere Eze will join up with Thomas Tuchel's England squad for a summer double-header next month, just over a year out from the 2026 World Cup finals in North America.

The Three Lions face Andorra away in a European World Cup qualifier on Saturday, 7th June (17:00 BST) – having won both of their matches so far – before a home friendly against Senegal three nights later (Tuesday, 10th June, 19:45) at the City Ground.

During the last international break back in March, Eze scored his first goal for England in a 3-0 win over Latvia.

Meanwhile, after previously being named in England U21s' pre-European Championships training squad by head coach Lee Carsley, Adam Wharton has now withdrawn from the squad.

The Palace midfielder, who was substituted during the FA Cup Final victory with a concussion injury and missed the final two league games, had previously been set to attend a training camp at St. George’s Park. This was as part of the young Three Lions' preparations ahead of defending their continental title.

But a further update from England on Friday, 30th May has confirmed that Wharton will now not join up with the squad.

Colombian pair Daniel Muñoz and Jefferson Lerma are once again included in the Los Cafeteros squad for their forthcoming South American World Cup qualifiers.

Colombia first face Peru at the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan Stadium, before then travelling to Argentina at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires.

The Palace duo played an integral role during the previous international window in March, playing minute of a double header against Brazil and Paraguay.

They currently lie sixth in the table ahead of the June window, with the top six all qualifying automatically for the 2026 World Cup finals in North America.

Palace's senior England internationals are likely to face teammate Ismaïla Sarr in their latter match, with the Palace No. 7 called up for Senegal's latest squad.

Sarr will be hoping to add to his 64 caps and 13 goals for the Lions of Teranga, having finished his debut Palace season with 12 goals and eight assists in 47 appearances in South London.

As well as taking on England, Senegal also face the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Friday, 6th June (19:45).

United States internationals Chris Richards and Matt Turner have both been called up by Mauricio Pochettino for friendly matches against Turkey (Saturday, 7th June, 20:30 BST) in Connecticut, and Switzerland (Wednesday, 11th June, 01:00) in Nashville.

The fixtures will provide the US Men's National Team with one of its few opportunities to face European opposition, before next summer's home 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.

They will also serve as a final opportunity to get prepared ahead of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which kicks off on 14th June and sees the USA – joint-hosts with Canada – face Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago and Saudi Arabia in Group D.

Meanwhile, Palace's No. 18 Daichi Kamada has earned another call-up to the Japan national team, after a brilliant first season in red and blue.

He has made 40 appearances so far and he became the first-ever Japanese player to start the FA Cup final to go on and lift the trophy.

Back during the March international break, Kamada scored in a 2-0 win against Bahrain to help Japan become the first country to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. That was one of his nine goals in 40 caps for the Samurai Blue.

Kamada and his Japan side will will face two further AFC World Cup qualifiers against Australia and Indonesia in June.

Elsewhere, an incredible season for Justin Devenny just keeps getting better and better, with the young midfielder earning another senior call-up to represent Northern Ireland.

Shortly after his debut in SE25 last November, Devenny was called up to the Northern Ireland squad and managed to make his senior debut as a late substitute against Luxembourg in the UEFA Nations League.

Since his first senior appearance for the Green and White Army, Devenny won two further caps in friendlies against Switzerland and Sweden. He will now be looking to add to his tally in their upcoming friendlies against Denmark and Iceland in June.
