UEFA one win, then three come along

The last time Palace won three Premier League games in a row was April 2023, beating Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton – three teams who would go on to be relegated a month later.

This time around they have beaten three teams fighting for European places, including the current Conference League holders, Jürgen Klopp’s title-challengers and Eddie Howe’s side, who have beaten Paris Saint-Germain this season.

The fixture list looked daunting, but Palace have blown the doubts away. Some run.

Is this just fantasy?

Some of you are clearly visionaries. Some of you are even more positive than that.

Jean-Philippe Mateta made it four goals in two games with his second consecutive brace against Newcastle, and that was good news for many – but especially for those who placed their Fantasy Football faith in the Palace No. 14.

The Frenchman’s form is on course to be record-breaking, according to the Premier League, and as you can see below, 914 lucky souls stand to benefit in a BIG way.

It’s safe to say that Will Hughes’ performance did not go unnoticed by those at Selhurst Park. From the first crunching tackle just minutes in, he in the mooooooood, showing aggression out of possession and composure on the ball – even bagging an assist for the second goal.

“It was in the collective performance,” he said, modestly.

“He talks too much,” said Mateta, less modestly.

That sweet clean sheet

So much of the action took place at the Newcastle end, that it’s easy to forget the role played by Dean Henderson. In the first-half he dived at the feet of Alexander Isak, bravely preventing a big chance, before making an important save and punching the air late on.

Newcastle were limited to just two shots on target throughout the game. Glasner-ball.

Speaking of the manager, it was fantastic to hear the ambition to keep pushing on after these three wins.

“We hope for four in a row,” he said in his post-match press conference. “A very famous coach in Germany said once: ‘after the game is always before a game.’”
