Loan Report: Goodman named in League Two Team of the Season

Most of Palace’s loanees are coming to the end of their respective campaigns as May draws near, some are scooping titles, promotions and awards and others are in relegation scraps. Find out how they’ve all got on this week below!

Starting with Owen Goodman, the young shot-stopper and his Wimbledon side fell to a 2-0 defeat at Port Vale on the weekend, putting an end to their automatic promotion hopes with one game remaining.

They face Grimsby Town on Saturday, needing a win to guarantee a place in the play-off spots. A draw will also suffice depending on results elsewhere on the day.

Despite the defeat, Goodman was named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season at the EFL’s end of season awards on Sunday - a reward for his outstanding form this season which may yet culminate in a promotion.

Another player clutching a trophy this weekend was Jeffrey Schlupp. The left-back came off the bench for the final 15 minutes as Celtic swept aside Dundee United 5-0 at Tannadice Park.

The win puts them 17 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and also guarantees them a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Elsewhere, centre-back Rob Holding kept a clean sheet for Sheffield United in their 2-0 win away at Stoke City. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi did not feature in this game for the Blades.

They are guaranteed a third place finish in the Championship, meaning their potential play-off opponents could be Bristol City, Coventry City, Millwall, Blackburn Rovers or Middlesbrough depending on how the final day pans out.

Loan Life: Jesurun Rak-Sakyi | Episode One

Goalkeeper Joe Whitworth saw his Exeter City side return to winning ways on the weekend, with a 3-1 comeback victory over Huddersfield Town. He has 16 clean sheets and one assist to his name this season.

Danny Imray helped Bromley to a chaotic 3-3 draw with Burton Albion, playing 65 minutes, while Tayo Adaramola’s Bradford City were narrowly edged out 2-1 by Doncaster Rovers who secured promotion at their expense.

Bromley are assured of a mid-table finish in League Two, a strong achievement in their first ever season in the EFL, while Bradford can secure promotion back to League One with a win against Fleetwood Town on the final day.

In the National League, Chris Francis made a third-consecutive start for Dagenham & Redbridge, after his suspension, and played the full 90 in a 6-1 victory against Altrincham.

The victory drags the Daggers out of the relegation zone with one game left to play against Jack Wells-Morrison’s Solihull Moors. Should Dagenham win the game, they will secure a place in the National League next season, a draw may be enough depending on results elsewhere.

Wells-Morrison played the full 90 minutes for the Moors, though they lost 2-0 to already-promoted York City. For more than half of the game, Wells-Morrison was deployed as a left-back.

Loan Life: Tayo Adaramola | Episode Four

For St. Mirren in Scotland, Killian Phillips made his 31st consecutive start and played the entire game as they drew 2-2 with Rangers. They are still in contention of securing a European place, though they will need to win their four remaining games and hope others drop points.

Aziz Ouedraogo played in both of SK Beveren’s Challenger Pro League promotion play-off clashes against Patro Eisden, however they fell to a 3-2 defeat away from home in the first-leg and a 1-2 defeat at home in the second-leg. Ouedraogo played 66 minutes in the first game and came on as a late substitute in the second.

Finally, in Ireland, Seán Grehan got his name on the scoresheet for Bohemian with a last-gasp 97th minute winner for the Bhoys. This was the second time in five days that Bohemian managed to snatch a victory deep into stoppage time.
