Internationals: Clean sheet for Guéhi, goal & assist for Devenny – and more!

Marc Guéhi helped England to record a fourth clean sheet in as many World Cup qualification matches under Thomas Tuchel, as one of a large number of Palace stars representing their countries this international window – find out more below!

Guéhi, Dean Henderson and Adam Wharton were all called up by England's senior side for the Three Lions’ pair of World Cup qualifiers this month, but it was subsequently confirmed that Wharton was not able to report for duty due to injury.

Guéhi was selected to start England's first match this month against Andorra at Villa Park – and played his part in the Three Lions' fourth competitive clean sheet on the bounce.

In truth, the Palace defender was rarely tested by the Andorran attack, but remained solid on the occasion of his 24th cap to help the Three Lions remain top of Group K in World Cup qualification.

Guéhi and Henderson have started the season in excellent form, helping the Eagles to four clean sheets in six competitive matches – and will hope to be in contention to face Serbia away on Tuesday (9th September, 19:45) evening.

Last week, Justin Devenny made his fourth consecutive start for the Green and White Army and – on the occasion of his sixth senior international cap – made it a landmark night with his first goal for Northern Ireland, away to Luxembourg.

Playing the full 90 minutes at left wing-back, the 21-year-old's energy down the flank marked him out as a threat throughout, and he hit the crossbar in the first-half with a free-kick.

But later on, with his team winning 2-1 heading into the final quarter of the game, and with Luxembourg moments earlier going a man down, the Palace man's grand moment arrived.

A half-cleared free-kick fell to Devenny inside the penalty area – and he duly reacted smartly and sharply to control and fire home at the near post with his right foot, before wheeling away in celebration.

That saw Devenny retain his place in the team – and once again play the full 90 minutes – in Northern Ireland's second qualifier, away to Germany on Sunday evening.

And it was he who once again made a huge impact in a World Cup qualifier, recording the assist – Devenny's first at senior international level – for Isaac Price's equaliser midway through the first-half in Cologne.

It was a pinpoint corner kick delivery from Devenny which led to Price's well-taken finish – and parity for Northern Ireland on the night.

Sadly, two quickfire late goals condemned Devenny and Northern Ireland to an eventual 3-1 defeat which sees them move back to second in Group A.

They next face early group leaders Slovakia in Belfast next month, with only the group winners guaranteed qualification for next summer's World Cup finals.

In South American World Cup qualification, Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Muñoz were both called up by Colombia with Los Cafeteros bidding to turn their recent form around – winless in six matches heading into the window.

But with Muñoz suspended due to accumulation of yellow cards for a home match against Bolivia in Barranquilla, Lerma still started and played 82 minutes in a dominant 3-0 win – one which secured Colombia's place at next summer's World Cup finals.

With just one qualifier left to play, Colombia have moved up to fifth – eight points inside the automatic qualification spots.

The Palace duo now could seek to add to their tally of caps against Venezuela in Maturín (Wednesday, 10th September, 00:30).

Borna Sosa is in Croatia's squad for a pair of World Cup qualifiers this month, and played the full 90 minutes of an important 1-0 win away in the Faroe Islands on Friday evening – helping his side to a clean sheet, and continuing their perfect start to the qualification campaign.

Winning his 27th cap, Sosa played the first 51 minutes of a game in which Croatia were dominant from start to finish – but were forced to settle for a win via Andrej Kramaric's first-half effort.

Croatia have now won all three qualifiers in Group L so far, scoring 13 times, including thrashing leaders Czech Republic in the last group window.

They will hope to continue that record at home to Montenegro on Monday (8th September, 19:45).

Elsewhere, both of Palace's transfer deadline day arrivals have been called up by their respective nations.

Christantus Uche, who arrived at the club on Monday evening on a season-long loan from Getafe, has returned to the Nigeria squad after debuting for the Super Eagles back in May.

The athletic 22-year-old will be hoping to add to his first two caps during Nigeria's crucial World Cup qualification double-header this month.

Nigeria played host to Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday, winning out 1-0 in what was something of a must-win fixture.

Uche was an unused substitute in the fixture, but will hope to be involved when the Super Eagles travel to Bloemfontein to face South Africa the following Tuesday (9th September, 17:00).

With seven of 10 matches now played in Group C, Nigeria find themselves third in their group – a point behind second-placed Benin, and six behind leaders South Africa.

Only the group winners automatically advance, with the top four of nine group runners-ups moving to a second round – so a strong result away to South Africa is important for Nigeria's hopes of qualification.

Teenage defender Jaydee Canvot, meanwhile, has been called up by France Under-21s for the first time in his career to cap a milestone week following his move to Palace from Toulouse.

The 19-year-old was hoping to be take part in Les Bleuets' Euro 2027 qualifier at home to Luxembourg on Friday – their first match of the campaign – but this was postponed following a traffic accident involving the Luxembourg coach the morning of the game.

Canvot could instead debut in a friendly at home to Serbia (Monday, 8th September, 20:00).

And rounding off our raft of new international signings, in South American World Cup qualification action, Walter Benítez was once again been called up by Argentina, having previously been named in 10 of his country's last 12 picks.

Having debuted for La Albiceleste in March of last year, Benítez will hope to add to his solitary cap this window, but did not feature from the bench when Argentina defeated Venezuela 3-0 in Buenos Aires.

With his nation already having sealed qualification and finished top of the table, Argentina round off their qualification campaign away to Ecuador on Wednesday (10th September, 00:00).

They will be hoping to join Chris Richards and host nation the United States at next summer's finals – with the Stars and Stripes playing a pair of friendlies this window.

They first hosted South Korea in New Jersey on Saturday, with Richards beginning the game on the substitutes' bench.

With his side already trailing 2-0, he came on in the 62nd minute, but was not able to help Mauricio Pochettino's team clamber back to victory.

He will be hoping to start when the USA take on Japan in Columbus the following Wednesday (10th September, 00:30).

Likely to be lining up opposite him in the latter fixture, Daichi Kamada continued his recent run of starts for Japan, having earlier this year captained his national team for the first time.

The 29-year-old lined up in central midfield for the Samurai Blue in a 0-0 friendly draw against Mexico in Oakland over the weekend, playing the first 69 minutes of a tight game.

Kamada will be hoping to add to his 43 caps when Japan take on the USA next week.

Elsewhere, Romain Esse has been named in the England Under-21s' squad, who kick off their new European Championship qualifying campaign with a trip to play Kazakhstan.

The Young Lions start the new season on the back of lifting a second successive Euros title earlier this summer, with a squad comprising a number of the players who have represented England through the development pathway in recent years.

That number includes Esse, who has previously won 10 caps at U20s level, and who made his U21s debut against Switzerland in March of this year.

Lee Carsley's U21s side begin the group stage with their longest trip, as they head to Aktobe for their opener against Kazakhstan on Monday, 8th September (16:00 BST) at the Ortalyk Stadion.
