Crystal Palace Under-21s return to Sutton’s VBS Community Stadium tonight (27th October, 19:00 GMT), as they host Newcastle United in their latest Premier League 2 encounter. Tickets are on sale now – don’t miss out!
Darren Powell’s side kicked off their home campaign in thrilling fashion, edging Leeds United 3-2 thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time header from captain Luke Browne.
Though Manchester United ended Palace’s unbeaten league run shortly after, the young Eagles bounced back impressively when Birmingham last visited the VBS.
Romain Esse was the standout on the night, scoring a sublime opener in the 16th minute before providing assists for both Zach Marsh and Dylan Reid in quick succession.
Despite Dan Ischei pulling one back for the visitors before half-time, Palace saw out the second half with maturity to secure a convincing win – maintaining their unbeaten home record this season.
Most recently, on Tuesday (21st October), the U21s exited the EFL Trophy following a spirited 5-2 defeat to League One high-flyers Stevenage.
As for the visitors, Newcastle currently sit second from bottom in Premier League 2. Still searching for their first league win, the Magpies have drawn twice and lost four times so far.
However, they did enjoy a moment of cup success, defeating League One side Mansfield Town on penalties in the EFL Trophy, though they narrowly missed out on qualification, finishing a point behind runners-up Huddersfield.
